about us4

The Anchor Bay Yachting Association is a 501-(C) (3) U.S. tax exempt non-profit organization requiring the organization to return 80% of its income to its charities. The ABYA, with funds raised from club membership dues and money generated from the various events we sponsor, is able to return this money to the boating community.

The programs and organizations that ABYA has made donations to, sponsored, or promoted over the years include: Macomb County Sheriff’s Dept.-Marine Division, St. Clair County Sheriff-Marine Division, Wayne County Sheriff-Marine Division, Great lakes Division of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets and the Pride of Michigan-Noble Odyssey Foundation, Clinton River Watershed Council and Save Our South Channel Lights.

The donations and profits from our fundraisers has been used to purchase cardiac defibulators, Laser range finders, GPS’s, Life Jackets, maritime training for the Sea Cadets, water monitoring in the Clinton River and historical preservation of the South Channel Range Lights. The ABYA also prints an updated safety book for distribution to Marine Division Sheriff’s Departments and the general public at the Detroit and Metro Beach Boat Shows.

The ABYA represents 21 boat, sail and Yacht Clubs as well as 3 area U.S. Power Squadrons. Our associated membership is approximately 7000 members from the Lake St. Clair to the Black River in Port Huron. The quest for new member clubs is unending. In the past 52 years many things have been accomplished but there is still much more to do to promote clean water, safe boating practices and community sponsorship.
